F1 social media approach “narrow-minded” – Grosjean

Formula 1’s approach to the usage of social media is “too narrow-minded” and is preventing the sport from gaining new fans, according to Haas driver Romain Grosjean.

Amid declining television audiences over the last few years, F1 has in recent times established an official presence on platforms such as Twitter and YouTube – despite Bernie Ecclestone’s long-standing opposition.

But the sport’s policy on the usage of video footage remains extremely strict, to the frustration of Grosjean, who says that a big opportunity for grand prix racing to gain a wider following is being squandered as a result.

“I ran a live video on my Facebook page during our filming day, as well as from my room yesterday,” he explained to Motorsport.com in an exclusive interview.

“And the FOM asked me to remove all the videos. We had more than a million views on all the videos.

“I think it's great, it allows people to see F1, what it's like inside, behind the scenes, but we're not allowed.”

The Haas driver added: “F1 is too narrow-minded - we say that we lose fans, but nowadays, social networks have so many billion people in the world - and we're not allowed to make the most of them.”

The Frenchman was, however, supportive of the new fan-voted ‘Driver of the Day’ award that is being adopted in 2016, saying: “There's the fan vote for the driver of the day, which is good, having fans behind us. It's rather cool.”

Concordo totalmente com Grosjean, a F1 é limitada mesmo e acrescento é quadrada, burra, teimosa e por conta de atitudes idiotas como estas é que está perdendo público.

Eu não vi o vídeo que Romain postou e que a FOM (ou seja, Bernie Ecclestone, o grande culpado) mandou que ele tirasse do ar, mas a galera que viu adorou. Por que será? Eu respondo. 

Porque a magia que faz da F1 ser esta categoria que os torcedores AINDA idolatram estava sendo mostrada. Qual o problema em se ver vídeos de Behind The Scenes? Qual o problema de vermos como os pilotos se preparam, ou como as equipes se organizam para um GP ou para testes coletivos? Qual o problema de termos uma visão mais humanizada dos pilotos? De vermos vídeos deles sendo pessoas normais, sendo engraçados, divertidos, sendo ELES MESMOS, mas que aos domingos entram nestes carros e viram estes caras especiais e que admiramos? Qual o problema em ver um pouco de tudo isto?

Eu respondo: NENHUM!!!!!!

A verdade é que existe um homem ganancioso que não quer deixar o mundo ver o que há de legal na F1 por trás das câmeras, o que há de divertido na vida dos pilotos, o que há de incrível no trabalho das equipes e engenheiros.

Sinceramente, por estas e por outras que a F1 está afundando. Por caras como Bernie Ecclestone e sua gerência. E se um dia ela acabar como categoria minha reação será como a abaixo.
