Jenson Button has told McLaren that he wants to remain with the British team beyond next season despite their escalating pursuit of Fernando Alonso.
McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh flew to Madrid for the opening of the Ferrari driver’s ‘Alonso collection’ earlier this week with one eye on signing the Spaniard for 2015.
Any such move would potentially place Button’s tenure with the team in doubt. But the 33-year-old, who joined McLaren in 2010 and will be paired with highly-rated rookie Kevin Magnussen next term, is adamant his future lies with the Woking-based outfit.
