Button: McLaren future not yet confirmed

Jenson Button has revealed that his Formula 1 future is not confirmed, the Briton's McLaren team yet to take up the option it has on him for the 2014 campaign.

Button, who joined the outfit in 2010, says he is eager to remain onboard for what would be a fifth season next year, but admits the decision lies with McLaren chiefs.

"I think I have a contract for next year, but I don't think it has a signature on it yet!" explained Button. "I really want to be here next year. You might think 'Wow, that's strange after this season', but I think this season has been good for us in a way.

"This will be a much stronger team next year so I want to be here. But I haven't heard the confirmation of that yet from the team. I think you have to wait for that."

Button, who claimed the 2009 title with Brawn GP, also acted to put himself out of the frame for a seat at either Red Bull or Ferrari, with their full line-ups also unclear.

"I think Red Bull is done," he commented. "I think the Ferrari seat is a great opportunity for any driver in Formula 1. To get the opportunity to race for a team like Ferrari is very exciting with what they've achieved, the passion within the team and the culture. I think it's a great opportunity and hopefully somebody who deserves it will get the drive."

Moving on to discuss his chances at Spa-Francorchamps this weekend, Button said McLaren should put pressure on itself to record its first podium finish of the season.

"I think we should aim to fight for a podium, yes," said Button, who won in Belgium last year. "I don't see any reason why not. I think we should put pressure on ourselves; we need it I think and I think we work well under it so I have no issue in saying that."

Até a função toda do Kimi começar ninguém estava pensando muito no contrato de Jenson. Mas como os resultados vão mal, um "não está assinado ainda" pode render muitos e muito pano para a manga.

Me  surpreenderia muito Jenson fora da Mclaren. Muito mesmo.
