Kimi reveals: "We liked each other starting from day one"

F1-drivers Kimi Räikkönen, 33, and Sebastian Vettel, 25, are good friends. Most people already know that. However a friendship in today's Formula One is quite rare. The drivers fiercly battle each other for points and championships. For example Vettel's and Mark Webber's relationship is icy. 

It's also surprising that especially Räikkönen and Vettel are biggest friends. Räikkönen is a man of few words and very straightforward. He rather spends time on his own. He would rather stop giving interviews. 

Vettel again is always happy and positive. He takes his fans into consideration in every situation and would answer the media's questions endlessly. 

Räikkönen is known as a hard partying man, Vettel's private life has no scratches to be found. 

Their difference is also age: eight years. It has never been an issue. 

- We liked each other from day one, Räikkönen reveals. 

- We understand each other quite well on the track, we don't make contact, Vettel confirms. 

Vettel likes Räikkönen's straighforwardness and honesty in particular. 

- With him things are just the way they are. 

Räikkönen appreciates Vettel being down to earth. Success has never gone up his head. 

 - He has kept his feet on the ground. 

- He is a nice guy. 

Not everybody are pleased with Räikkönen's behavior and attitude. Yet he isn't going to change. 

- It doesn't work if you try to please everybody. I always try to enjoy life and be myself the best I can. Some like it, some don't, but I don't care.

Acho querida esta amizade. Mesmo de longe ela me confortou em muitos momentos em 2009. Vettel é uma daquelas pessoas (como era Heikki Kovalainen) que sabem como fazer Kimi sorrir de verdade. Gosto disto. E acredito que eles sejam bons amigos. Não no sentido de confidentes, mas aquele tipo de amizade que temos porque nos faz bem.

Não sei até que ponto esta amizade vai durar se as coisas na pista esquentarem. Até hoje Kimi e Vettel nunca disputaram mesmo, um contra o outro, por títulos. Mas espero que se um dia acontecer, que a amizade bacana que eles têm possa continuar. Mas isto, só o tempo vai dizer.
