Räikkönen ready to battle for pole

F1 | Turun Sanomat 21:12

Kimi Räikkönen continued in Hungary from where he left three years ago. Räikkönen was 2nd in Friday practice on Hungaroring circuit - ahead of him was only Lewis Hamilton, who has left Kimi 2nd twice - in 2007 and in 2009.

Räikkönen has earlier been best in Friday practice with Lotus in Barcelona where he came in 5th. Kimi said now also that practice times don't have any bigger significance.

However based upon the practice times Hamilton is considered as the strongest candidate for pole and Räikkönen is considered as the biggest threat in qualification on Saturday.

Räikkönen got past Hamilton in the WDC-serie with his 3rd position in Germany.

– Hopefully I also stay ahead. My goal is to improve during the second half, be stronger in every aspect. If that is enough to improve my position in the serie, then it's good. If it doesn't, then it can't be helped.

DRS-wing -test took away setup-time

Räikkönen didn't have more than 45 minutes in the afternoon to setup his car for Hungary's challenges. Just like in Germany he was testing the new DDRS-rearwing, which was told to have encouraged the team, but the driver was very quiet about this novelty that will be in Belgium.

– It's normal business, testing all new parts. When there aren't any tests, you have to try them on Friday instead, Räikkönen explained.

The setups seem to have fallen in place well in a short time.

– The car felt good all the time. I didn't have time to try everything I was supposed to, because it started to rain. I couldn't make the long stints with a heavy fuel load. But overall the feeling is good. Although based upon that it's impossible to say about which positions I'll be fighting for in qualification.

There's a nice amount of Finnish spectactors in Hungary. Kimi's mother Paula Räikkönen is also present.

The question about how he feels about the home race didn't excite the driver.

– For me it's all the same if there's one Finn or 100.000 Finns in the audience. It doesn't affect my race. I try to do the best each time. Of course it's cool when there are Finns. It's good for them and good for us.

É, parece que agora as coisas estão começando a se encaixar para Räikkönen e seu E20 como ele queria desde o começo do ano. #gostodisto
