E hoje é aniversário de 43 anos de Kaj Lindström, o sempre bacana e paciente co-piloto de Kimi Räikkönen. Quero com este post desejar toda felicidade para o Kaj, um cara que desde o começo tem sido de extrema importância para Kimi nesta nova etapa de sua carreira. Kaj Lindstrom was once described by a rival as “way too cool” and now he has one of the chilliest jobs in rallying: sitting next to the Iceman. When Kimi Raikkonen started rallying in 2009, he selected Lindstrom to read his pace notes on the recommendation of four-time champion Tommi Makinen, whom Lindstrom partnered from 2001 until 2003.
Previously, he had co-driven another Finn, Tapio Laukkanen (now part of Raikkonen’s safety note crew on asphalt rallies) to a dominant British championship title in 1999.
Lindstrom’s partnership with Laukkanen continued through 2000 and 2001 with the duo taking an excellent fifth overall on Rally Australia in 2000 in a semi-works Ford Focus WRC. Then there were the golden years with Makinen, followed by some selected outings with privateers - until the Iceman came along.
Lindstrom was a vital ingredient in Raikkonen’s transition to becoming a rally driver, having taught him how to make pace notes from scratch, with the duo finishing fifth on Rally of Turkey last year and setting top-four times in Bulgaria, not to mention a stage win in Germany.
This year, they aim to make the most of that experience by tackling 10 rounds in the all-new Citroen DS3 WRC.
