Räikkönen ill - did not get the opportunity to launch team

Kimi Räikkönen was not able to participate in the launch of his Ice One Racing motocross team at a motorcycle exhibition held in Helsinki on Thursday because of illness.

Räikkönen's PR manager Riku Kuvaja assured MTV3 that Räikkönen's participation in the World Rally Championship series will not be threatened because the illness is exactly one week to the start of the series in Sweden.

The new team owned by Räikkönen will begin this year in the Motocross World Championships series in the MX1 and MX2 classes. The team will use Kawasaki bikes.

Kimi Räikkönen's own motives for setting up the team are human and come from his own heart.

- I've always wanted to ride motocross more than anything else. As a kid it was my dream. The idea of my own team has arisen over the years, Raikkonen said in the press release.

The Ice One Racing motocross team is headed by seven-time enduro world champion Kari Tiainen, who will steer the two young riders of the team in the World Championship series. Räikkönen and Tiainen are among the most successful motorsport athletes in Finland and they want to participate in increasing the number of young Finnish talents this way.

In Spain where the team has its training centre, its season will begin on February 13th with an international training competition and on April 10th the World Championship series in Sevlievo, Bulgaria.

The team's riders Toni Eriksson (MX1) and Ludde Söderberg (MX2), in spite of their young age are dominant in the Finnish Championships. The boys' objective is clear.

- We go to the World Championship series to race for points and we want to be on top. It is what we are working towards, Söderberg clarifies.

The Ice One Racing team also includes a junior team, which competes in different series with six young Finnish riders.
