Räikkönen's return to the track

RAIKKONEN'S RETURN TO THE TRACK

The Bulgarian rally stages this weekend will be new to everyone in WRC, but, for one man at least, the asphalt track will mean a welcome return.

For Kimi Räikkönen, who is slowly getting to grips with his Citroen C4, it's a surface he excelled on during his days in Formula One.

Fifth is the former champion's best finish in his new guise as a rally driver, but, with testing and a practice rally in Italy having gone very well, the expectation is for a podium push.

However Bulgaria will still only be Kimi's sixth World Rally Championship event, and his very first on asphalt.

As the Finn explains, there is still a lot of hard work ahead...

"It's so different – it's a bit like saying that if you can drive on the normal road okay, then you can drive in Formula One," said Kimi, giving us hope that we could each of us become Formula One drivers.

"Rallying and racing is so far apart that the biggest difference is not just the surface. Instead it's the style of driving and the way that you work with the car. There is one thing in common, which is that you use a steering wheel for both. I can't think of many other things to be honest.

"But I'm looking forward to the weekend. Asphalt should be a bit more normal for me."
