A big surprise: Räikkönen saved Lotus

The Lotus-team would have been sold if Kimi Räikkönen wouldn't had won in Abu Dhabi.

Motorsport-Total -website reveals that it was really close in October that the Lotus-team didn't get new owners.

Genii Capital wanted to give up the team due to financial reasons. However they had to postpone the signing of the business contract for some juridical details.

Räikkönen's fantastic victory in Abu Dhabi changed the situation. Genii Capital -bosses Gerard Lopez and Eric Lux realized that the victory lifts up the team's value. They wanted to change the contract clauses and ended the negotiations finally in the beginning of December.

Motorsport-Total also tells that Lotus-team has debts of 80 million euros at the moment.

According to the same website Räikkönen earned 17 million euros last season. A huge amount of the salary came from point-bonuses.

Ilta-Sanomat revealed already earlier that Räikkönen had negotiated a contract which guaranteed him 50 000 dollars for each scored WC-point. Räikkönen scored 207 points.

E fez isto do melhor jeito possível, com resultados, quietinho, na dele, sem alardes. 

Eu sei que eles não se lembrarão disto se as coisas derem errado em 2013, mas de qualquer forma, estará lá, marcado, que se Räikkönen não tivesse vencido Abu Dhabi, as coisas hoje na Lotus definitivamente não estariam como estão. #fato
